Welsh Summer Camp Grading Success

Welsh Summer Camp and Nation Gradings Success, for famous Spennymoor Karate Club

Four members from Chikara Dojo, based in Spennymoor, attended the annual Kyokushin Summer Camp in Wales recently. The camp took place at Christ College, Brecon, over a warm summer weekend. Kyokushin karate students from all around Britain attended this year’s camp, where training sessions took place every few hours throughout the entire weekend. They began on Friday evening and ended on Sunday afternoon.

National Gradings are always nerve-wracking for everyone in attendance..

Who took their grading?

From the four in attendance this year, two members took their National Gradings.

Firstly, Reza Azhdari–Nia, who is originally from Iran, passed his brown belt grading and was promoted to 2nd kyu.

Lindsay Young, who is originally from Canada and who has trained at the Chikara Dojo for just over 5 years, gained the much coveted Kyokushin black belt! Thus making her, officially, a Kyokushin Shodan and the 11th person to achieve this grade in the club’s 18-year history.
