The competitors

From the 5 members of Team Chikara who attended the Welsh Championships, 4 returned home with trophies:

  • In the Junior Kata (pre-arranged forms), Kyle Corner placed second, having just missed out on first place by .1 of a point.

  • In the Women’s Kata, Lindsay Young placed second.

  • In the boys 10 to 12 year old category, Kyle Corner again placed second, having beaten some much bigger opponents to the post.

  • And in the Women’s Lightweight division, Michelle Turnbull placed second.

Special recognition goes to club Instructor, Connor Colledge. Despite being a lightweight fighter he chose to move up a notch to fight in the Middleweight category, competing against fighters holding a sizable weight difference. He showed great fighting spirit as he fought his way to the top, to claim first place.

“Our members are a credit to themselves…”

Third Dan, Chief Instructor Adam Walker, who opened our internationally respected club almost two decades ago, after returning from Japan, is absolutely delighted with the results: “Our members are a credit to themselves, their families, their community and our club. They should be extremely proud of their achievements. Their preparation, dedication and hard work over the past months have paid off” he commented.
