More Success for Spennymoor Karate Club

Two students from the internationally respected Chikara Dojo of Kyokushin Karate based in Spennymoor have returned home triumphant from the IKO1 Kyokushin Full Contact British Championships, which were held in Ware, Hertfordshire recently.

In the women’s novice lightweight category, Michelle Turnbull (32) from Bowburn gained second place. Michelle’s result is very impressive as she has only been training for a relatively short time and this was her first competition.

In the men’s novice heavyweight category Reza Azhdari-Nia (39), who is originally from Iran and has trained at the Chikara Dojo for approx. 2 years placed first, having had several fights with several different opponents. This makes him the current Novice Heavyweight British Champion.

“It has been a pleasure to help our competitors prepare for this competition and it fills me with pride when I see everyone’s hard work paying off. Our students should be extremely proud of their achievements” commented Instructor, Connor Colledge (1st Dan)

In a full contact knockdown competition fights are won by knocking an opponent out or down. In the adult events, body protection is not normally worn. The event can last all day, with fighters competing against several combatants.
